Privacy Policy
Who we are
Idris the Revert is the public face of The Amānah & Isnād Initiative, based in South Africa. Contact: privacy@idristherevert.org. We process personal data in connection with revert support, Islamic education resources, and the activities of The Amānah & Isnād Initiative and its Isnād Institute.
What we collect
- Contact forms / Welcome Kit: name, email, country (optional), message.
- Mailing list: name and email.
- Automatic technical data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and similar information via standard server logs and privacy-friendly analytics.
We do not actively seek sensitive data beyond what is inherent in participating in Islamic religious programmes (e.g. indication that you are a Muslim or exploring Islam), and we do not knowingly collect children’s data without parental or guardian consent.
Why and how we use it
- Consent: to send the Welcome Kit, reply to messages, and deliver the newsletter you have requested.
- Legitimate interest: to keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and understand basic anonymised usage so we can improve services.
We never sell your data or share it for third-party marketing. Any sharing is limited to trusted service providers who support our operations (hosting, email newsletter, analytics) under appropriate safeguards.
Data processors
We use a web hosting provider, an email newsletter service (such as MailerLite or Mailchimp), and, optionally, a privacy-friendly analytics tool. Data may be stored or processed on servers outside South Africa (for example in Europe, Asia, or North America). Where this involves cross-border transfers, we aim to apply safeguards consistent with POPIA and, where relevant, GDPR (such as appropriate contractual clauses or providers in jurisdictions with adequate protection).
Retention
- Messages: up to 12 months.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or we close the list.
- Logs and basic analytics data: up to 6 months.
We may retain limited records longer where law or governance requirements reasonably require it (for example, to evidence consent preferences or respond to complaints).
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and withdraw consent at any time by emailing [email protected]. We aim to respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also complain to your local data authority or to the South African Information Regulator.
Security
The site uses SSL encryption. We apply reasonable safeguards, though no method is 100% secure.
Cookies
We use only essential functional cookies and, optionally, privacy-friendly analytics that do not track individuals. See our Cookie Policy below.
Changes
If we update this policy significantly, we’ll notify mailing list subscribers.

Educational, not legal or religious rulings
The Welcome Kit and Revert Support materials are pastoral and educational. They are not a fatwā, personalised legal ruling, or professional counselling. For specific religious rulings or therapeutic support, consult a qualified local scholar, imam, or professional practitioner.
Isnād tools do not certify
The Transparency Index, governance frameworks, and directories highlight transparency and governance practices only. They do not endorse, accredit, certify, or judge the spiritual rank, doctrinal correctness, or safety of any scholar or institution. Users must perform their own due diligence and consult recognised authorities before relying on any platform or teacher.
No professional relationship
Using this site or receiving the Welcome Kit does not in itself create an imam–congregant, counsellor–client, advisory, or legal relationship. Any such relationship must be formed explicitly with a recognised scholar, counsellor, or professional.
Emergencies
In crisis or emergency, contact local emergency services, trusted family/community members, or qualified professionals immediately. This site and its resources are not equipped for urgent or life-threatening situations.
Accuracy
We strive for accuracy and coherence, but context matters and views may evolve. We cannot guarantee that all content is error-free or universally applicable. Users should cross-check important points and seek further guidance from qualified scholars and institutions.
